YOU ARE INVITED…

Poets of all ages are invited to view the Art of Community Exhibit at Mare Island Art Studios (launching August 9), select up to three pieces of art, and write poetry for our upcoming ekphrastic poetry event. We’re excited to have Vallejo Co-Poets Laureate Jacalyn Eyvonne and Kathleen Herrmann as featured guests.

Write a poem, 25 lines or less, about each artwork you have chosen. Send your poem(s) as a word.doc or PDF to ladydi94596@yahoo.com by Tuesday, August 19. Please include the following:

  • Your name, phone number & email address
  • Title of the artwork and the artist’s name
  • Payment of $5 per poem or $10 for 3 poems (waived if you’re unable to pay);

HEAR THE SELECTED POEMS…

Selected poems will be read on Sunday, August 24 at 2 pm, at Mare Island Art Studios. Finalists will be notified by email or text by Friday, August 22nd. Only one poem will be chosen for each piece of art.

Saturday, July 12, 2025 @ 11 AM: Woody Guthrie Poets at Okfuskee County Historical Society, 407 W Broadway St, Okemah, OK, United States, OK 74859 – D.L. Lang among the featured poets.

Sun July 13 – 707 Day – 10am to 1pm at Bambino’s Pizza in downtown Vallejo. It will feature author readings, open mics, games, $7.07 mimosas, and the delicious menu offerings of Bambino’s. For more information visit the Solano Writers Society. Kathleen Herrmann among the featured authors.

Sun., July 13  – Tea House Open Mic Poetry, IntegriTEA Space, 717 Marin Street, 2-4 p.m., hosted by Co-Poet Laureate Jacalyn Eyvonne.

July 20 – Benicia First Tuesday Poets Annual Picnic – 12:30 PM to 3 PM at First Street Gazebo. Bring your lunch and favorite drink (no alcohol allowed) and 2-3 pieces of poetry for the open mic about 3 minutes each for 2-3 rounds. Benicia Poet Laureate Kathy Monroe will provide cookies and extra water for everyone.

December 7 – Vallejo’s annual Mad Hatter Holiday parade. Vallejo Poet Laureate Jacalyn Eyvonne will be sharing poetry. For more details visit hattervallejo.com

Saturday, December 14 – Benicia Literary Arts Annual Holiday Party at the Estey Real Estate office located at 216 First Street in downtown Benicia. Look out for details to come via the Benicia Literary Arts website.

December 26 – Fairfield’s annual Hanukkah lighting with Chabad of Solano in front of the Solano County government building at 675 Texas St. Poet Laureate Suzanne Bruce will be sharing a poem, and Hadas Daniel will be translating it into Hebrew.
